Stress is unfortunately a major complaint in these days. We all talk about these stressful times and life just seems much more complicated than it did a few short decades ago. Stress can produce some pretty unpleasant symptoms such as thin hair loss and changes in weight as well as even more significant symptoms such as depression and even heart problems.
Why do we get more stressed than our parents or grandparents did? We seem to lead such frenzied lives. That is not to say that the generations before us were lazy, far from it, as they often worked physically harder and walked more than many of us do.
We seem to have more worries than they did as most of us are stressed over whether we are performing well enough at work, whether we are earning enough money to cover the mortgage and whether we are indeed keeping up with the Jones next door.
Our stress is partly due to the fact that we are more focused on consumer materials - such as money and possessions - rather than the spiritual side of life.
We long to go back to the more simple days before people had access to all the gadgets that are part of our everyday life – and yet we panic at the thought of not having our Blackberry on holiday in case there is a crisis in the office.
